I have always rather liked skincare with plain, no-frills packaging and as little scent and colour as possible. I prefer the bang to be in the skincare itself rather than the fanfare with which it announces itself.
Instagram and TikTok trends have pushed cutesy packaging and novelty to the forefront though. I see gold or bubbly face masks, rainbow colouring and cute packaging front and centre in our local beauty chain, with a big sign saying ‘As Seen on TikTok’
I tend to ignore everything like that (I am old and cynical after all), but I was rather taken by South African brand Sundae Skincare Co’s pretty creams. These swirls look like ice cream and did make me smile.
