The Lipstick Index

The term Lipstick Index was coined by Leonard Lauder of Estee Lauder, to describe increased lipstick sales during economic downturns.

It has been discredited as an actual economic indicator, but cheaper things like nail polish, a new mascara, or an eyeshadow can be a way of cheering yourself up during gloomy economic times. Nowadays makeup is much more expensive as influencers and celebrities create expensive brands, but you can always find quality products on the cheaper end of the scale.

I am not much into makeup and I have never really splurged on facials or spas, so I love buying mask sachets or bubble bath cubes if I need a pick me up and the budget is tight. They are budget friendly and sometimes they make all the difference.

If you are not into that, how about a small pack of fancy tea or your favourite biscuits (cookies in the US), a Kindle book, hand cream, quirky coffee mug, or a cheerful pen?

Below is my favourite little treat of the past three years. I usually stock up when there is a buy 3 for 2 offer at my local Body Shop. They smell great, make lovely bubbles and soften the water beautifully. Each one lasts me three baths.
