Overdone marketing?

I have used Orofluido products before, not because of their advertising but because my hair really liked their Elixir and hair mask. Recently I picked up some of Orofluido products on deep discount ($4 or so). They have probably been redesigned/reformulated, or the stockist is no longer selling them.

One of the products was Amazonia shampoo. The box was rather pretty and the bottle is a pretty green colour, although it could have done without the cardboard packaging. Fancy packaging probably gives the idea of added value, but I always put packaging in the recycling bin as soon as I get home.

What was really over the top was the description of this product. They didn’t even try to make it sound realistic.

Orofluido has unearthed some of the mysteries that lie at the heart of the rainforest to bring you beauty products that will infuse your hair with the vitality of Amazonia.

The invigorating essence of exotic berries with a hint of lush green leaves and a warm sensual base will transport your senses to the mysterious depths of Amazonia.

Powerful ingredients for intense repair

Orofluido has travelled to the heart of the Amazon rainforest to harness the vitality of its indigenous flora.

I honestly hate this kind of advertising-speak. Surely no one believes that they actually went trekking through the rainforest for secret ingredients to save hair? Usually the ingredients are in minuscule amounts, way down on the list.

I buy and use products that are reasonably priced, and clean or moisturise. I don’t believe in any claims about anti-ageing or cellulite reduction or plumping. I do enjoy buying products with honey, rooibos, and aloe ferox, but these I buy close to source in South Africa. I also have no illusions of miracle results.

This reminds me of a L’Oreal product a number of years ago, containing Boswelox (always makes me laugh). Even today, I always think ‘what a load of Boswelox’ when I see claims about miracle ingredients.

Technological innovation: Boswelox. With Boswelox, a breakthrough phyto-complex, combining boswellia extract and manganese, Wrinkle De-Crease helps reduce the appearance of lines caused by facial micro-contractions.

They then had to withdraw ads from the UK market due to false claims.
